Lane detail
The UK lane at a glance
| Detail | What applies on this lane |
|---|---|
| Origin gateways | Nhava Sheva (JNPT) and Mumbai Air Cargo Complex, with inland collection across India. |
| Destination ports | Felixstowe, Southampton and London Gateway, with onward inland delivery. Air into Heathrow and the regional freight airports. |
| Sea transit, indicative | Broadly 20–30 days port to port. Published forwarder figures put Nhava Sheva to Felixstowe near the lower end on a direct service; routings around the Cape of Good Hope sit at the upper end. |
| Air transit, indicative | Typically 2–4 days airport to airport, depending on space and whether the booking is express or consolidated. |
| What moves the range | Red Sea conditions. When carriers route via the Cape instead of Suez, transit lengthens materially, so we quote against the routing actually on offer. |
| Service types | FCL, LCL consolidation, air freight, temperature-controlled and hazardous cargo, door-to-door delivery. |
| Documentation | Shipping bill, HS classification, bill of lading or air waybill, certificate of origin where applicable. Your UK importer needs an EORI number and correct commodity codes at their end. |
Why Cargoking
Why the UK lane needs planning, not just a rate
This is a long lane with a wide transit range, and the gap between the best and worst routing is measured in weeks rather than days. A rate quoted without naming the routing and the transhipment is not really a quotation at all.
Since the Red Sea disruption, carriers have moved services between Suez and Cape routings at short notice. We state the routing, the transhipment ports and the service the rate belongs to, so you can plan a delivery date you can defend to your buyer.
At the destination end, your UK importer needs an EORI number and correct commodity codes before the goods arrive. That is their side of the process, but it stops shipments often enough that we flag it at booking rather than leaving it to be discovered at the port.
- Felixstowe, Southampton and London Gateway
- Routing and transhipment stated in the quote
- FCL, LCL and air priced side by side
- Indian customs and DGFT handled in-house
How it runs
How a shipment to the UK is handled
Four stages, each owned by the same coordinator, so nothing is handed between companies while your cargo waits.
Enquiry and routing
Route, commodity, weight or volume and the date go in. Realistic options for the UK come back with the routing named, usually the same working day.
Documentation first
Shipping bill, classification and any permit the commodity needs are prepared and checked by our own Mumbai team before the cargo leaves your premises.
Booking and carriage
Space is contracted on the service quoted. Under our Multimodal Transport Operator licence a sea-plus-road movement runs on one document.
Destination and delivery
Clearance and onward delivery at the UK end, reported back through the same coordinator who took your enquiry.
Pricing
One quotation, itemised, with the routing named
A rate without a named service behind it is not a quotation. On this lane we state the routing, the transhipment and the service the rate belongs to, so the delivery date you plan with is one you can defend to your buyer.
Every charge we control is listed. The ones we do not control, duties and statutory taxes, are named rather than buried, so the invoice matches what was agreed.
- Routing and transhipment named in the quote
- Customs and DGFT prepared in-house
- A named coordinator from enquiry to delivery
- Operations desk available 24/7
- 01Main carriageCarrier rate on the service and routing quoted
- 02Origin handlingPickup, export handling and terminal charges
- 03Customs and documentationShipping bill, classification and DGFT filings
- 04Destination chargesImport handling and clearance in United Kingdom
- 05Inland deliveryFinal leg to the consignee where agreed
Transit figures on this page are indicative ranges drawn from public carrier and port data. The quotation confirms the actual service, and duties and statutory taxes are listed separately because the authorities set them.
Common questions
Shipping to United Kingdom
Broadly 20–30 days port to port, and the routing decides where in that range you land. A direct service via Suez is materially faster than one routed around the Cape of Good Hope. We quote against the routing actually being offered and state the transhipment, rather than giving a figure that cannot be held to.
Red Sea conditions. Carriers have moved services between the Suez and Cape routings at short notice, and the difference runs to a week or more. It is why a transit figure without a named service behind it is not useful for planning.
When the deadline decides the commercial outcome, yes: air is typically 2–4 days against weeks by sea. For planned replenishment it rarely is. We price both so the landed-cost difference makes the argument rather than a sales pitch.
Yes. A UK importer needs an EORI number and correct commodity codes to clear the goods. We flag it at booking, because a consignment arriving at Felixstowe against an importer who is not set up is an expensive way to find out.
Yes, through our agent network at destination, so the movement stays on one file with one coordinator from collection in India through to the consignee’s door.
